Testimonio
de D. Juan Alvarez Seco.
Tercera
Parte.
Lo
que ocurrió el día 18 de marzo.
Subiendo
Testimony of Mr. Juan Alvarez Seco.
Third Part
The occurrences of March 18.
When ascending from Cossío on this day, I found myself with
my friend Fidelín, who invited me to go up in his car and to accompany Fr.
Jesús Silva, founder of the City of the Boys in
siguiente día, 19 de marzo de 1961, extasiado se acerca al mostrador del bar;
─
La Virgen felicita al Padre José.
The three of us when up to Garabandal and the first contact that we had was with the seer María Dolores, who was in ecstasy at 11:45. When the vision happened on the next day, March 19, 1961, she had an ecstasy near the bar counter. She took a pencil from the box and supported a holy card on the kitchen wall. She wrote what the Virgin said:
─ The Virgin congratulates Fr.
According to what the mentioned priest told me, he had not told anyone his name, and for him it was exciting to receive this marvelous proof. Furthermore, in that moment, his face was pale because of the proof he had just received.
We went to Conchita’s house later.
Everything was open for the Holy Hour.
Fr. Silva spoke to Conchita about a Holy Hour, and Conchita asked what it was. This was when Fr. Silva explained it to her, and agreed to do a Holy Hour in the Church. We didn’t have the key to the Church or to the tabernacle to give Holy Communion, and Fr. Valentín was sleeping in Primitiva’s house.
Matutano, the Brigadier from Reinosa, and I went to the priest. We asked him for the key to the Church, and he told us that he couldn’t give it to us for Fr. Silva to do the Holy Hour.
Regresamos
Matutano and I returned to Conchita’s house, and Maximina said that we could go to the Church to see if it was open. Twenty of us went with Conchita and María Dolores; I remember that the Marquises of Santa María were there.
We found the door of the Church open, but we were missing the key to the sacristy to get to the tabernacle. Fr. Silva found that the tabernacle was open even though the sacristy was closed, so we did the Holy Hour with all of those present and everyone received Communion.
It was marvelous, as the Marquises of Santa María, Matutano, and others I don’t remember know. Fr. Silva told us that everything happening at Garabandal was true.
This happened to Mr. Damián with a cross.
Mr. Damián, from
Conchita had the vision and we all followed. In the door of the Church we saw how she gave all of Damián’s objects for the Virgin to kiss, and afterwards, she put the chain around his neck while still in ecstasy and we returned to Conchita’s house. Mr. Damián noted that he only had the chain, and the gold cross was missing.
encontrar, aun cuando a nosotros nos dijeran en la puerta de la iglesia está;
When Conchita returned to the normal state, Mr. Damián told her that the cross was missing.
Conchita responded:
─ That’s true. The Virgin told me that it fell off in the door of the Church.
In my presence and the presence of others, we saw how she could find something so diminutive. It was there in the door as she had said. Conchita went right to the place and took it, not only in my presence but in the presence of all who were there.
Mis
Comienza
diciendo:
─
Por la señal ...
My glasses and the sign of the Cross.
I was in Conchita’s kitchen with various other people who were curious, waiting to see Conchita’s apparition. Suddenly, she fell into ecstasy. Among all of the people, she directed herself towards me and went to bless me with the Cross.
She began saying:
─ Through the sign…
Me
At that time, she touched my glasses and they fell off; in that moment I didn’t accede, but she waited and put them on my hand. Then, at the request of those present, but with fear that I would break them, I took them. They closed, and she returned them to me.
I blessed myself as I had never done before; I asked for my glasses once again, and I put them on my face as I had never done before. While I live, I believe that each time I make the sign of the cross, I will remember this. The Virgin told her to take off my glasses so she could bless me better.
One of the things that will always live in my memory is a holy rosary kissed by the Virgin and two pictures that were also kissed that worked on two people.
One of the days that I went to Cabezón de la Sal to receive orders from my Captain, I also went to San Vicente de la Barquera to greet my good friend and companion, Expósito. We met in a bar, and I could see various calendars of immoral figures on the walls.
que aquello no guardaba relación; le pedí al dueño del bar me diera la estampa;
In the middle of these calendars, there was a holy card of the Virgin of Fátima; I saw that it should not have contact with the other things. I asked the owner if he would give me the holy card, but no, he wouldn’t give it to me. He gave me one of St. Michael, and then later I he gave me the one of Fátima
In Garabandal, María Dolores was in ecstasy one day, and I gave the only holy card to Jacinta, who was in the normal state so that she would give it to María Dolores for the Virgin to kiss. The girl did what I asked, and when María Dolores returned the holy card that had already been kissed by the Virgin, Jacinta asked:
─
¿Quién está en la estampa?.
─
No sé, respondió María Dolores.
─
─ Who is on the holy card?
─ I don’t know, responded María Dolores.
─ Well, ask Our Lady, Jacinta inquired.
María Dolores did and after a few seconds she responded:
─ The Virgin says that the
Virgin of Fátima and
No
You cannot imagine how excited I was when I heard that. Today the holy cards are with my friend and benefactor Julia de Costa, and her little blind friend, the daughter of a Civil Guard. They pray for humanity everyday, and for the good necessity of God’s protection.
Oh, how ugly they have made you compared to how beautiful you are!
en forma ovalada en la que en una cara decía «Alicia» y en la otra una cruz;
One day, a good friend of mine arrived at Garabandal with his wedding ring; he had already witnessed an Apparition and had given a medal for the Virgin to kiss. However, he returned with the doubt that this medal was not really kissed.
I remember how this happened:
It was in Ceferino’s bar. The Painter, who is a friend, came with his wedding ring and two of his medals. One is like the current medals of the Virgin, and the other was oval, and on the face it said “Alicia,” and there was a cross on the other. He also gave another medal; he gave all three to María Dolores.
This girl took them and when she saw that on one face it said “Alicia” and on the other there was a cross, she was confused because the image of the Virgin was not very good, but she agreed to give it to be kissed. When she was already in ecstasy and showing the Painter’s medal to the Virgin, she said:
─ Oh, look how ugly they have made you, compared to how beautiful you are.
He believed that the other medal had not been kissed, but when he heard the Virgin tell Mari Loli that it was already kissed with his own ears, his face became very pale and he was very excited.
Yo
It was even greater for the painter’s wife who had gone to bed as she’d wanted, since this was in the evening, and she had missed the words of the Apparition which we had all felt. For her, this meant a proof that she would take into account.
I have seen Conchita horizontally suspended in the air.
One of the apparitions that impressed me most:
Conchita
quedó extasiada; daba unas medallas a besar a la Virgen diciendo:
─
no llego.
─
no llego, no puedo.
Jacinta
sin estar en éxtasis, también lo presenciaba. Conchita le decía a su amiga:
─
Salta tú, porque yo no puedo llegar.
It was the one that took place in Conchita’s kitchen. My good friend Dr. Ortiz was also there. He can also explain innumerable apparitions. A priest named Fr. José Ramón Vázquez, a seminarian from Reinosa, and others were present as well.
Conchita fell into ecstasy; she gave some medals for the Virgin to kiss saying:
─ I have not arrived.
It can be deduced that the Virgin insisted upon kissing them, and Conchita repeated:
─ I have not arrived, I can’t.
Jacinta was not in ecstasy, but she witnessed this as well. Conchita said to her friend:
─ Jump, because I cannot arrive.
Entonces
logró levantar a Conchita. Aquello me dejó perplejo.
Then someone tried to take Conchita and lift her with all her might, but it was useless. He couldn’t move her or unglue her feet from the ground, which gave the feeling that she weighed thousands of kilos.
Nevertheless, Jacinta neared Conchita and with all of her might, and without anyone’s help, she lifted Conchita. That perplexed me.
But there is something more surprising that I will never forget:
Me
dudas. Creo que tampoco lo olvidaré mientras
viva.
I found myself next to the door to the entrance of the
kitchen. Dr. Ortiz, a priest from
I wanted to prove this by passing my hand between Conchita’s body and the floor, but I couldn’t because it only lasted for a few seconds. I do this to make clear that for me, there was no room for doubts. I don’t believe that I will ever forget this while I live.
demás no recuerdo.
She gives me one of the five rings
In another ecstasy, Conchita had five wedding rings on the kitchen table, all made of gold. I think one was Sr. Ortiz’s, and other was his wife’s, but I don’t remember to whom the others belonged. She took them and gave them to the Virgin to kiss, then she left them on the table.
She came towards me, and I believed that she would come to give me the cross to kiss as the other seers always did when I was in Garabandal. However, she gave me one of the five rings and said to me:
─ Take it and bring it to
This ring belonged to Paquita Olivella’s sister, from
Quitó
las gafas al Sr. Cura para persignarle.
Este
día decía Conchita a la Virgen:
─
She removes the Priest’s glasses to bless him.
That day, Conchita said to the Virgin:
─ A priest has come to relieve Fr. Valentín.
After this, they also removed the priest’s glasses to bless him. He received good proofs, since it was his first day in Garabandal. According to what he told me, when Fr. Valentín came again and this other returned to his post, I believe that the Bishop said to him:
─ I had sent you to make them believe that the Apparitions were false, or something similar, but you have returned more convinced of the Apparitions than the girls themselves.
Yo veía a Jacinta
The day of Our Lady, Conchita’s Patron, everyone congratulated the Virgin, and later they saw her play a game with the girls in ecstasy.
The Virgin wants the girls to dress with modesty.
Once, I remember, Jacinta appeared in a nightgown. We
understand that the Virgin told her that she wore a very short skirt. I
saw Jacinta during the Vision and at that time, she pulled her skirt down
because it was coming up, the Virgin had already indicated how it should
be. Today, the miniskirt is a
scandal.
Hija,
Me
Child, why are you wearing your new coat? If you have an Apparition of the Virgin, you will be in the streets and you are going to stain it.
I witnessed one Sunday.
I found myself near Conchita’s house in the afternoon and I heard her mother say:
─ Child, why are you wearing your new coat? If you have an Apparition of the Virgin, you will be in the streets and you are going to stain it.
Conchita
Conchita went toward the Church, and at the height of a deaf woman’s house, and next to Loli’s house, Conchita went into ecstasy and fell on the ground supported by her right hand, where she was holding the crucifix. I saw her smile.
She stood up straight, but with her glance fixed on the Vision. She turned and went toward her house. The others, myself included, followed her. We saw her enter her house and go to the bathroom where she found the wash basin, which didn’t have any water. She went to the kitchen. Under the table, there was an empty bottle. She went with it to the street; in front of the house there is a fountain with two spouts.
Sigo
I followed behind her, and under the two steps there, she filled the bottle, returned to her house, threw the water in the washbasin, washed herself and the crucifix, which had been stained.
She changed out of her new coat for one that had been used, as her mother had told her. She returned to the Church in ecstasy and said a prayer there. She was confused about how she’d changed her coat, and she smiled.
Jacinta was in bed for several days because of the flu; she had a fever.
Her parents had warned her that while she had a fever she should not get out of bed. But while Jacinta was in bed, she did not see the Virgin.
I remember that when I learned she was in bed I went to see her, and while I was speaking with her parents, she escaped out onto the street. As soon as she left the door, she was in ecstasy, and there was a smile on her lips and she seemed angelic.
As a result, María Dolores was also affected by the flu.
I went to see her, and she told me that she had been afraid of the guards.
ellas. Decían ellas:
─ Ya vienen por nosotras.
I asked her why she was afraid. She told me about how she and Jacinta had taken a hammer and sold it for a peseta to buy a chocolate pastry, and they ate it.
Afterwards, they always thought that the Civil Guard
appeared in the village because of them. They said:
─ Now they have come for us.
They also entered an orchard and uprooted turnips. The owner surprised them and they tried to hide behind a car. The owner said to them:
─ Don’t hide, I have found you. When the Civil Guard comes, they will take you.
Now, since the Civil Guards escort and protect the girls, they do not have this fear. I asked them if they had confessed all of these things, and they answered yes, a long time ago.
